Just Research Educational Program. The ongoing lack of diversity in research participation places unnecessary limitations on our ability to advance health equity, and solutions lie in interventions that contribute to researcher trustworthiness. The Just Research educational program, directed by Dr. Passmore and Gina Green-Harris, MBA, aims to increase the capacity of research teams to effectively and ethically engage participants and partners from groups underrepresented in research. Since our initial implementation in 2022, our team has served hundreds of investigators and team members who report significant changes in attitudes, self-efficacy, and self-reported behavior, as well as behavioral change.
Just Research is a collaborative project with the UW Center for Community Engagement and Health Partnerships (also directed by Ms. Green-Harris) and the Wisconsin Network for Research Support. The program is supported by the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.

Promotion of Inclusion in Alzheimer’s Disease Research. Communities underrepresented in clinical research face unique challenges with Alzheimer’s Disease. This work comprises qualitative explorations of the decision to participate in research, including biospecimens collection among Native American and African American research participants.
In this work, we collaborate with the African Americans Fighting Alzheimer’s in Midlife (AA-FAIM) team in the School of Medicine and Public Health led by Dr. Carey Gleason. We also have a new award (with Dr. Gleason), Recruitment Science Pilot to Explore the Decision to Participate in AD Research for Members of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, supported by the UW Initiative to End Alzheimer’s.
